Nelson Young Born April 1958 in Belize City, Nelson Young is one of Belize’s most celebrated, prolific and collected artists. Nelson lives on the beautiful Island of Caye Caulker where he has his art studio. With his bold use of primary colors, and modern style, he has become a ‘national treasure’ he has an ever growing international following and can count a former Belizean prime minister amongst collectors of his paintings. Back in the day, you could find Nelson nestled up among the trees where he built a platform over the water. In his characteristic style, Nelson would hang his paintings from the limbs of trees whilst they swayed in the breeze.
A truly unique vision! After a few years break from painting, beginning during the pandemic, he’s back creating his unique and one of a kind paintings, and is proving to be as prolific as ever. Nelson has been connected to Belizean Arts for the past few decades and we are proud to represent this unrivalled Belizean talent in both of our stores: Belizean Arts, and Gallery 501.
